Different Kinds Of Carrier Oils

Why are Carrier Oils Important?

Many people may wonder why carrier oils are necessary to add in CBD products.  Why don’t companies just sell pure CBD?  Well pure CBD aka CBD Isolate not only would be hard to measure out exact doses, but your body would be unlikely to process the majority of CBD it takes in.  For this reason, CBD is typically formed into an oil-based solution which binds with fat molecules your body is already breaking down.  Once you put the CBD into the carrier oil, it is more possible to measure out your exact doses of CBD that fit your daily regime.

Bio availability:

Bio availability refers to the amount of CBD your body can process compared to what it takes in.  What determines CBDs bio availability is the types of fat molecules contained in the carrier oil.  There are many different carrier oils out there, the trick is knowing the difference between them.

Common types of Carrier Oils:

  • Grape-seed Oil
  • Olive Oil
  • Palm Oil
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • Hemp Seed Oil

Grape Seed Oil

Grape seed oil isn’t very greasy, so it is often used into skin and hair products.  Grape seed oil also consists of polyunsaturated fats which does not make it the best carrier oil for CBD.

Hemp Seed Oil

Many companies try to pass hemp seed oil as being the same as CBD oil.  This is a common misconception. Make sure when buying CBD that you have verified levels of CBD in it.  When hemp seed oil is used it must be mixed with other oils with higher bioavailability, such as fractioned Coconut Oil.

Fractionated Coconut Oil

Iconic Remedies chooses this carrier oil in their Tinctures for many reasons.  For one it has little flavor which makes it great for tinctures.  Coconut oil has natural anti-inflammatory/fungal/bacterial properties.  It is also thinner than most oils, making it easier to dispense and measure.  The best part of using this oil is how much saturated facts it contains.  Smaller fat molecules make it easier to be absorbed in the body.  Being able to absorb more in your body makes it more bio available and in return your body will receive the full benefits it needs when consuming your medicine.
